Selection

Confirmation of stud-book entry

The examination of confirmation aims to decide whether the morphology of the dog is true to the type of his breed, to check that the dog is well tempered (neither aggressive nor shy), to verify that he is not a carrier of any among the eliminatory faults mentioned in the list of points of non confirmation of his breed and that consequently he may be allowed to breed.
(S.C.C. Cynophilie française, n° 70, 2ème trim. 1990, p. 9)

Having said this, if « the examination of confirmation aims to secure the maintaining of a breed and, if possible, to improve it, it is definitely not – to be quite accurate – a selection test.
Its function is to delimit the lower threshold not to cross, and not the optimum desirable threshold “.
(SURGET: La sélection et son organisation, dans R.O.C.F. n° 52, 4ème trim. 1985).

Beauty – Health – Temperament

Opinions diverge as to know in which order we should rank these three criterion, but everybody agrees that they are the three requirements we must aim at if we want to practice selection. Hence the necessity of a reasoned choice of the best breeding stock in order to improve the breed.

Quotation system

To achieve this, R.A.L.I.E. has adopted a quotation system, agreed by S.C.C. (the quotation of the dog figures on his pedigree).
